The Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics invites you to the INNOLEC lecture:

Gregg Wade: Magnetic field incidence, strength, variability, and topology of warm supergiant stars

As hot B-type stars evolve off the main sequence, they experience extreme changes in internal structure and physical properties driven by evolution of their nuclear energy generation. As a consequence they expand and cool, evolving into warm (A-F) supergiant stars. By studying the magnetic properties of these supergiant descendants we obtain new insights into magnetic flux transport through stellar evolutionary cycles, as well as evidence for the onset of atmospheric convection at advanced evolutionary phases.

In this talk I will review recent systematic spectropolarimetric observations of bright A and F-type supergiants, including Cepheid variables, providing a first assay of their magnetic field incidence, strength, variability, and topology.
