Scholarships, awards and fellowships

Have you just started studying physics at university? Do you have achievements in mathematics or physics Olympiads or experience in the field of physics popularization? Are you able to write a short popularization text about this discipline? The George Placzek Scholarship aims to you. The scholarship, worth a total of USD 3 000 (USD 1 000 per academic year), will be paid for three years (equivalent to the normal length of an bachelor degree). The scholarship is announced by the Brno branch of the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists in cooperation with the Placzek Family Foundation (USA) and DELONG INSTRUMENTS a.s.

Brno Ph.D. Talent is a competition for students of doctoral study programmes that offers long-term financial support and career development support to 25 talented doctoral students in the form of a scholarship of CZK 100,000 per year for three years. The competition is funded by the Brno City Council and administered by the South Moravian Centre for International Mobility. Are you a full-time student in science or technology and under 32 years old? Apply! The application includes a professional CV, a description of the research project, professional background, and must be in English. Registration is open from 4 to 24 September 2023.

Female students of STEM disciplines (S - Science, T - Technology, E - Engineering, M - Math) can submit their bachelor theses to the SHE STEM AWARD competition. Applications are now open on the website sheaward.cz. The winner will also receive expert guidance and will have the opportunity to present their work at the WE Local Conference 2024. Female students can apply by sending their undergraduate theses completed between October 2022 and September 2023.

Submit your diploma thesis to the CRYTUR 2023 competition! The conditions are the topic of the thesis in material sciences and the thesis submission for the defense from October 1st, 2022, till September 30th, 2023. A submitted thesis can be written in Czech, Slovak, or English.

The prizes are money for the student and his supervisor. Last year, there were 56 theses submitted to the competition. The organizer is the CRYTUR company in Turnov. The company deals with optoelectronics and hi-tech industrial applications.

Firma ThermoFisher Scientific and Czechoslovak Microscopy Society (CSMS) announced annual calls for a two-year fellowship program for a young scientist (up to 35 years old - exception is the length of maternity/parental leave) or Ph.D. student in the total amount of 200 000 CZK. The fellowship program is for those who in their work use electron/ion microscopy or directly work with results obtained by electron microscopy, XPS, μCT a nanoCT.

Taiwan Semiconductor Scholarship Program
The prestigious scholarship to one of the five Taiwanese universities is intended for Polish, Slovak, Lithuanian and Czech students in fields related to semiconductors and nanotechnology. During the internships, the scholarship holders can personally get acquainted with the environment of companies involved in the development and production of the latest Apple M2 chips. The program is accompanied by a fairly high monthly stipend, travel to and from Taiwan and all tuition fees are covered. The maximum duration of stay for Master's students is 2 years and for PhD students a maximum of 4 years.
