Myank Singhal: The Evolution of Young Stellar Disks in the Galactic Center: Binary Mergers and the Formation of Dusty Objects
For more than a decade, a key research focus has been the continuous study of the low-mass dusty objects within a few milliparsecs from Sagittarius A* in the Galactic Center. The true nature of these objects has been a hot topic of debate, with their eccentric orbit and connections with star formation in the Galactic Center. In our work, we simulate a disk of stars expected from an infalling giant molecular cloud leading to star formation and construction of the young stellar disk we observe today. Our results show how a fraction of the binaries in this disk are pushed to eccentric orbits and merge near the SMBH. These merger products have orbital properties similar to the currently observed dusty objects in the Galactic Center. Our simulation results link these binary mergers to observed dusty sources in the Galactic Center. These results and the recent observations showing D9, a dusty object, as a binary system are essential steps towards uncovering the mystery of our own Galactic Center.
