We investigate the travel of a light ray on the surface of a
V-shaped part of a sphere (imagine a couple of pieces of an orange). Though the
system seems to be simple, it has in fact very complicated behavior: for
different positions and directions of the ray, we get both "regular" and
"chaotic" regimes. Since the system is given by iteration of some nasty
mapping, the usual methods of nonlinear dynamics do not apply here. In this
talk, we will first present the system itself and its numerical simulations,
and after that, we show how some of the behavior can be explained analytically
if the central angle is a bit less than π.
