Student physics lectures 2025

This year's F9878 student physics seminar once again offered students insight into how things work in our physics department — the kind of research we do, how to choose a bachelor's or master's thesis, which courses to enroll in, how to go abroad within the university, and many other useful tips.

The Student Physics Lectures F9878 is an elective course at the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University, offered during the autumn semester. It also includes a special weekend event organized by young researchers and experienced students for newcomers. The seminar aims to connect students across the various physics disciplines at our faculty. This year’s edition took place from Friday, October 10 to Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Junior camp base in the Podyjí National Park. The program was traditionally packed with lectures, discussions, and social activities. A total of 46 students participated. Among the nine organizers from all three physics departments were mostly senior and experienced students.

The speakers included several of our alumni. Roman Přibyl presented research at the Institute of Scientific Instruments of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Michal Fleischner shared his experience transitioning from academia to the company Thermo Fisher Scientific in Brno. Erik Búš captivated the audience with the topic of light that is neither a wave nor a particle. Martin Čermák gave insight into the work of a physicist in the semiconductor world of onsemi. Jakub Kelar offered a glimpse into the diverse world of electrical discharges and their applications in research at MU. Emma Daňková introduced the field of radiological physics. Lakshmi Sajeev presented the research infrastructure of CEITEC. Petr Pazourek shared the story of his diploma thesis and the challenges he had to overcome. Subhroneel Chakrabarti combined art and science in a talk about black hole research.

A major highlight was again the traditional poster session, where students could explore specific research projects of their senior peers. All presentations and posters are available in the course study materials. The entire event also provided space for friendly discussions about science, studying, and life at the faculty. More information about the event can be found here.
