Dean's Awards 2025
Tomáš Kašparovský, the dean of the Faculty of Science, awarded the best students of the Faculty of Science MU. From the physics studies, Lucia Švandová and Dr. Roman Přibyl received the award.
Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Masaryk University and CEITEC at the Brno University of Technology hosted OPERA COST Action Training School focused on the epitaxial deposition of thin films and nanostructures (MBE, MOVPE, PLD), their applications (magnetic nanowires, quantum computing) and characterization methods (XRD, TEM, AFM).
It was a hybrid event attended by 25 onsite participants and more than 30 people connected online. The School featured talks from experts from academia and industry (Thermofisher, onsemi) and insight into AFM data analysis with hands-on using open-source software Gwyddion. Demonstrations of semiconductor device fabrication technologies (at Department of Condensed Matter Physisc) and deposition and characterization methods (at CEITEC Nano and Czech Metrology Institute) provided hands-on experience to onsite participants. The onsite participants enjoyed discussions of their research results during the Wednesday poster session, and informal discussions continued during a follow-up party at the outside venue of CEITEC.

A year ago, the journal Science included altermagnets among the nine breakthrough discoveries. Now, physicists from Masaryk University in Brno and the Metropolitan University in Osaka are presenting results that further advance our understanding of this new type of magnetic material.
