High School Student Jakub Koch Wins 1st Place in SOČ Regional Round

Jakub Koch, a student of Katolické gymnázium Třebíč, won 1st place in Physics at the regional round of the SOČ competition in the Vysočina Region. His project, carried out at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology under the supervision of Dr. Pavel Ondračka, focused on the structure of titanium vacancies in titanium carbide. He will now advance to the national round.

DPPT and CEPLANT at SICT Plasma Tech 2026

Prof. Petr Vašina and Dr. Ondřej Jašek presented their latest research results at the SICT Plasma Tech 2026 conference in Prague. Their contributions included an invited lecture on sputtering processes and an oral presentation on plasma conversion of hydrocarbons, highlighting current research directions in plasma science at our institution.

The first edition of the Student Scientific Conference at DPPT and CEPLANT, brought together talented students to present their research. The event highlighted a high level of scientific quality and engagement, recognized outstanding achievements with financial awards, and opened the path for the winners to advance to the Czech-Slovak finale.

Erasmus+ Visit Linking Plasma Science and Cultural Heritage

The Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and CEPLANT hosted Ing. Dominika Smatanová from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava during her Erasmus+ research stay. Her work focuses on the use of low‑temperature plasma for the conservation of modern and contemporary art. The stay provided valuable practical experience and strengthened the connection between plasma science and cultural heritage.

Supporting Excellence in Student Scientific Publications

In the first four months of the year, the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology awarded 300,000 CZK to students for outstanding publication activity in Q1 and Q2 journals. The funding supported 13 papers involving student co-authors, highlighting strong collaboration and high-quality research outputs across the department.

Strengthening Collaboration in Ultrafast Plasma Diagnostics

The Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and CEPLANT welcomed Dr. Hans Höft from INP Greifswald. During his visit to the Plasma Diagnostics and Modelling group, he delivered a colloquium lecture and shared expertise in advanced plasma diagnostics, including streak camera techniques, contributing to the development of ultrafast plasma research and strengthening international collaboration.

Farewell to Dr. Jianyu Feng

We bid farewell to Dr. Jianyu Feng, a valued member of the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications group. After completing his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Richard Krumpolec, he continued as a researcher contributing to atmospheric pressure plasma research. We thank him for his dedication and collaboration and wish him continued success in his future career.

Assoc. Prof. Pavel Souček is representing our department at the International Conference on Metallurgical Coatings and Thin Films (ICMCTF) in San Diego, where he is contributing through both an invited lecture and a poster presentation. Strengthening Collaboration with INNOVENT e.V. on Atmospheric Plasma Applications

Richard Krumpolec and Slavomír Sihelník visited INNOVENT e.V. in Jena, Germany, where they a had meeting with the Biomaterials and Surface Technology departments on the preparation of a joint research project. The visit fostered expert exchange, strengthened international cooperation, and explored potential participation in the upcoming AK‑ADP workshop focused on atmospheric plasma for water treatment.

An interview with Assoc. Prof. Pavel Dvořák

Pavel Dvořák has been working at the Faculty of Science since the beginning of February as Vice-Dean for Education Development. “I’d like to ease the burden on teachers. Efficiency could be improved by adjusting the structure of courses, especially electives with very small enrolments,” he says. In the interview, he also explains why it can be useful for teachers to have substitutes in some courses and highlights the benefits of sharing ideas and experience among colleagues. Jiří Fujera on Erasmus+ Stay at Bari

PhD student Jiří Fujera completed an Erasmus+ research stay at the Institute for Plasma Science and Technology in Bari, Italy, gaining hands-on experience in low-temperature plasma physics. His work focused on ultrafast laser diagnostics of plasma–water interactions for green nitrogen fixation using Raman scattering and EFISH techniques. The stay strengthened international collaboration and knowledge exchange in plasma research.

COLOSSE Soft Skills Training

At the end of March, colleagues from the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and CEPLANT attended a soft-skills training within the COLOSSE consortium at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. The program focused on presentations, visual communication, open science, and research data management. Informal discussions also helped strengthen collaboration across the COLOSSE network.

Heart of Europe workshop 2026

Researchers from the PVDLab are participating in the annual Heart of Europe Workshop, which brings together three closely connected teams working in thin films and plasma‑based deposition technologies: the group of Prof. Petr Vašina (Masaryk University), the teams of Prof. Paul Mayrhofer and Assoc. Prof. Helmut Riedl (TU Wien), and the group of Assoc. Prof. Marián Mikula (Comenius University Bratislava). The workshop highlights the strong scientific potential of regional collaboration between research groups located only a few hours apart.

Dr. Zdeněk Bonaventura has been invited to speak at the DPG Spring Meeting 2026, part of the 89th Annual Conference of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft held on 15–20 March at FAU Erlangen‑Nürnberg. His lecture, “A multi-ratio method for determination of the electric field from 2p states in transient argon discharges at atmospheric pressure,” will be featured within a program bringing together experts from across physics for interdisciplinary scientific exchange.

CEPLANT and DPPT welcomed members of the CLUTEX technical textiles cluster on March 4th, presenting research capabilities in thin‑film technologies and atmospheric plasma while learning about partners’ innovations in advanced materials.
