Vladimír Hudák excelled with his high school project at AMAVET 2025

Vladimír Hudák, a Slovak high school student, worked with DPPT and CEPLANT on using plasma-reduced graphene oxide to purify food dye solutions – a technology with environmental benefits. His project earned national recognition at AMAVET 2025 and the Quark Magazine award, showcasing the potential of plasma technologies and opportunities for young researchers.

MU and Ghent University Strengthen Ties in Sustainable Plasma Technologies

Scientists from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University recently visited Ghent University’s HYDRAULICA laboratories to strengthen collaboration in sustainable plasma technologies. Hosted by Dr. Anton Nikiforov, the team discussed results of the NAKI3 project on plasma treatment of library collections and explored synergies with Ghent’s MOXY project, alongside plans for future joint research and Erasmus+ exchanges.

Plasma4Water workshop

The CEPLANT Centre co-organizes a two-day expert workshop focused on emerging research directions and technological innovations in the use of plasma and nanotechnologies for wastewater treatment. The event is organized in collaboration with the BalticNet PlasmaTec consortium, which promotes international research partnerships and project development under the Horizon Europe programme. The workshop will provide space for knowledge exchange, collaboration building, and joint research planning.

Martina Mrkvičková Presented Plasma Diagnostics Research at GEC 2025 in Seoul

From October 13–17, 2025, the prestigious 78th Gaseous Electronics Conference (GEC) in Seoul brought together global experts in low-temperature plasma science. Dr. Martina Mrkvičková from CEPLANT and Masaryk University presented her research on enhancing laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics for atomizers used in trace element analysis, offering solutions to challenges like signal saturation and beam attenuation.

Successful PhD Defense: Jianyu Feng

On October 14, 2025, Jianyu Feng successfully defended his doctoral thesis focused on surface modification of complex materials using thermally non-equilibrium atmospheric pressure plasmas. His research, conducted at CEPLANT and the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications group at DPPT under the supervision of Dr. Richard Krumpolec, marks a significant contribution to the field of plasma nanotechnology.

4th Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications workshop

The 4th Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications (PNB) Workshop took place from October 20-23, 2025, in Češkovice near Blansko, bringing together 37 researchers from seven institutions across four European countries. Since its founding in 2019, the workshop has grown into a valued tradition that fosters collaboration within the PNB research group and its international partners. This year’s program featured inspiring presentations, joint project discussions, and networking in the scenic surroundings of the Moravian Karst.

Jan Skácel at SPINE workshop organised by ESA

Our Ph.D. student Jan Skácel represented his research at the 32nd SPINE workshop organized by ESA in Madrid. The event gathered experts to discuss spacecraft – plasma interactions, including satellite charging and electric propulsion – key topics for Jan’s research in very low Earth orbit. His active involvement also paved the way for a collaborative ESA project proposal.

Scientific Stay of Dr. Matej Fekete at Linköping University

Dr. Matej Fekete has conducted a research stay at Linköping University linked with his MSCAfellow@MUNI project, which focuses on oxynitride thin films. In collaboration with Prof. Grzegorz Greczynski and the Fundamental Science of Thin Films group, his research addressed hybrid deposition methods and plasma diagnostics using industrial-scale equipment.

Looking back at Researcher's Night 2025

“Wealth” was this year’s theme of the European Researchers’ Night, held on September 26. Nearly 7,000 visitors stopped by the Masaryk University. Animators from all three physics deparments prepared a diverse program for all age groups. At our physics stations, we didn’t count the visitors, but the interest was huge! Thank you to everyone who came – you were amazing. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

Scientific Stay of Dr. Ondřej Jašek at University of Córdoba

Between September and October 2025, Dr. Ondřej Jašek from CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology is conducting collaborative research at the University of Córdoba’s LIPS laboratory, focusing on plasma-assisted synthesis of few-layer graphene and related nanocomposites. The stay, supported by the COLOSSE program, strengthens long-term ties between CEPLANT and LIPS and contributes to advanced materials research for energy applications.

COLOSSE Summer School on modelling and simulation of solids

In September, the COLOSSE Summer School 2025 brought together many of our researchers from the Deposition of Thin Films and Nanostructures group and their colleagues to explore the modeling and simulation of solids, with a focus on molecular dynamics (MD) and density functional theory (DFT). Led by experts David Holec and Pavel Ondračka, the program featured lectures and invited talks by leading scientists in the field of computational materials science.
