GBRAlpha detected first gamma ray burst

The CubeSat of our colleague Norbert Werner and his team detected its first gamma ray burst. The burst was found in the data by Jakub Řípa. It is the first gamma ray burst ever detected by one unit CubeSat and by the CubeSat dedicated only to gamma ray burst observation. Congratulation to the team!

GA ČR award for the development of new plasma units

The Grant Agency of the Czech Republic rated the research developing thin flexible ceramic substrates with optimized electrical properties for plasma sources as excellent. Members of the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications research group led by Professor Černák participated in the research.

Interesting finds of our colleague in LAMOST survey

Our colleague Ernst Paunzen and his collaborators discovered not only over one thousand of chemically peculiar stars but also several mercury-manganese stars in LAMOST survey.

Prestigious Ignaz L. Lieben Award granted to Norbert Werner

Prof. Norbert Werner, from the Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, has been awarded Ignaz L. Lieben Award. The award is given by Austrian Academy of Science to scientists for outstanding achievements in the fields of molecular biology, chemistry or physics. Norbert Werner was awarded for his achievements in X-ray astronomy.

GRBAlpha launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on Monday 22nd!

On the morning of the 22nd of March the Soyuz rocket carried nanosatellite GRBAlpha to orbit. Our colleagues were participating on its development.

Researchers's Night, long and online

There are 9 videos from physics departments available for the online Researcher's Night 2020 available till the end of the year.

"We are testing how our modification of nanofibre filters will withstand industrial use," says David Pavliňák

Our experts have devised a technique that facilitates the production of nanofibre mask filters. Now, with the help of a grant from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TAČR), they are verifying how the plasma-treated surface of the filter handles temperature fluctuations, storage and other "pitfalls" of commercial production.

Czech Television report: a world-class astrophysicist moves to Brno

An astrophysicist of world renown will be undertaking research at Masaryk University in Brno since this summer. Originally from Slovakia, Norbert Werner is coming to south Moravia thanks to a special grant. He will be researching intergalactic gases here and wants to cooperate with Brno companies focused on the space industry.

Norbert Werner Is the New MUNI Award Holder

Astrophysicist Norbert Werner has become the third grant holder of MUNI Award in Science and Humanities (MASH). After eight years at Stanford University in the United States, he moved to Loránd Eötvös University in Budapest, Hungary. He is also giving lectures in Hiroshima, Japan.

The Faculty of Science, Masaryk University against COVID-19: production of nanofiber filters for voluntary sewn masks

The cooperation between the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Physical Electronics resulted in the production of filters from nanofibrous material prepared by the electrostatic spinning method. These filters can be inserted into volunteer sewn mask and significantly increase their efficiency.

New possibilities for the lossless transmission of an electrical signal, which can be used, for example, in quantum computer processors, have been tested on new compounds by an international group of scientists including experts from Masaryk University (MU), University of West Bohemia (UWB) and CEITEC Institute of Technology.
