Joint experiments with french colleague Simon Dap

Simon Dap from Toulouse, France, joined the scientists of the Plasma Diagnostics and Modelling research group. Simon Dap is a researcher at the Laboratoire LAPLACE, Université Paul Sabatier, and works on atmospheric pressure discharge physics and optical diagnostics.

Zdeněk Bochníček won the Martin Černohorský's Award

JČMF bestows the Martin Černohorský's Award for those who significantly contributed to physics education. This prize in honor of the distinguished professor Martin Černohorský was awarded only for the second time. This year's first prize goes to Assoc. Prof. Zdeněk Bochníček, a Vice-Dean for Teacher Programmes at the Faculty of Science of MUNI and the head of the section Didactics of Physics, Department of Plasma Physics and Technology.

Dr. Jakub Kelar as an invited scholar at Laval Université in Quebéc

Last year, Jakub Kelar became an invited researcher at Laval Université in Canada. He accepted the invitation of Prof. Gaétan Laroche to join their research. This year, he has gone to Canada again, works on multiple projects, and collaborates with students in teaching.

New optional course: 3D printing in practice

F3410 – 3D printing in practice is a new course of Assoc. Prof. Pavel Slavíček and Dr. Vlasta Štěpánová. It aims to introduce to students the 3D printing and its use in practice, for example in the laboratory or in teaching.

2024 Earth Day

At Earth Day 2024 in the Botanical Garden, the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and the CEPLANT Centre represent physics. The Botanical Garden organizes this event every year. This year's topic was plant protection. Hundreds of people, both adults and children, came to the event.

The Heart of Europe workshop is a traditional gathering of scientists dealing with thin films. The center of Europe is presented by the Technical University of Vienna, Masaryk University in Brno, and Comenius University in Bratislava.

Prof. Christoph Gerhard and his colleagues visited their project partners at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and the CEPLANT Centre in the second week of April 2024. Together, they are working on the functionalization of fibers.

Central European Platform for Plasma-enabled Surface Engineering begins

Since April 2024 for the next three years, CEPLANT center will lead the project COLOSSE funded by the Pathways to Synergies Call 2023 (Horizon Europe). COLOSSE connects Czech and Slovak research facilities in plasma-enabled surface engineering and boosts their potential for Horizon Europe and future EU R&I programs.

Plasma and crop protection

Plasma treatment of seeds offers new possibilities for decontamination and, therefore, seed protection against bacteria and fungi. The research of Assoc. Prof. Pavel Slavíček, Dr. Vlasta Štěpánová and their colleagues investigates the treatment and its functionality. Plasma treatment is suitable for replacing chemical agents that are still used to treat seeds. It can improve germination and suppress unwanted molds, which may affect the seed storability.

At the end of January, a Slovenian scientist Assoc. Prof. Sebastian Dahle from Ljubljana and a doctoral candidate, Neja Bizjak, visited the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and the CEPLANT centre.

Canadian scientist Dr. Jacopo Profili visited the DPPT and CEPLANT Centre

In the last week of January, Canadian scientist Dr. Jacopo Profili visited the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology and CEPLANT Centre. Initially a chemistry graduate, Profili is now working in Canada on preparing and modifying materials using gas discharges. As part of the INNOLEC project, he lectured on barrier dielectric discharge and its use in producing organosilicon layers.

Project on functionalized fiber spectroscopy with HAWK Göttingen is halfway through

Scientists from the Plasma Nanotechnologies and Bioapplications research group at the DPPT and CEPLANT center investigate new possibilities for sample analysis using LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy). They traveled again to Göttingen, Germany, to further measure LIBS and to discuss plans for future work. The MOBILITY projects rely on reciprocal visits between international partners and their research centers.

Dr. Čech's research stay at the University of Innsbruck, Austria

Dr. Jan Čech from the Applied Plasmochemistry research group at the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology went on a month-long research stay at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. The visit was devoted to diagnostics of the new CaviPlasma technology.
