Seminář ÚTFA: Marek Skarka

The Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics invites you to the department seminary:

Marek Skarka: Sound of stars

Sound waves in stars, as well as other sources of stellar variability, produce observable brightness variations. Because these variations can be translated into a hearable sound, each star can be seen as a unique musical instrument. I will briefly discuss sources of stellar variability and pulsations and then focus on a project dedicated to the sonification of stars. I will show three approaches to sonify brightness variations and how different stars can sound. Since the characteristics of pulsations are unique to each star and the process of sonification is reversible, we can assign a matching stellar type to each of us.
